 William Vivanco

« The world is changing « William Vivanco was born in 1975 in Santiago de Cuba, the musical heart and soul of the island. Like Compay Segundo, Sindo Garay, Emiliano Salvador, Eliades Ochoa and many other artists before him, William found inspiration and excitement in his hometown's vibrant city centre ,enjoying many a night at the Casa de la Trova, Cespedes square and the many lively cafes of Heredia street , listening to music, drinking rum and absorbing the culture. It was the time of the Trovadores, who combined the influences of Spanish Romantic music with Itallian bel canto . At 17 years old, William joined the prestigious Coro Madrigalists, whose repetoire ranges from Monteverdi to Pablo Milanes, but even then he already knew that the best way to express himself was through his own compositions, his own voice and his guitar. Armed with style and originality , he moved to Havana, to join the other young creative artists of his generation at the crossroads of Latin Jazz, Hip hop and La Nueva Trova. "El mundo esta Cambiao"is Williams third album. In 2002 he released "Tengo tu Pensao", from which the song "Cimarron" was popular . He followed up that success in 2006 with "La Isla Milagrosa", featuring the smash hit "Pilon",which became one of the years major musical events and remains well known until now... The new album, " el Mundo Esta Cambiao" is a collaboration with the New York Musican and Producer Robert Aaron . Robert's diverse past includes names like Wyclef Jean, Blondie, David Bowie, Eric Andersen and James Chance. The recording took place in Havana but it carries the spirit of a new generation and the sweet sounds of the carribean and the world beyond. Echos of Africa, Jamaica , Andalusia, Argentina, Brazil and Haiti can be heard on this album, Imprints of Williams journeys, real or imagined , throughout the planet and the universe. The opening track, "Palo Haitiano" is a nice example of this collaboration, combining both the singer and producer's love of Haitian culture and search for new ways to combine old influences. "We are the explorers of chance and went in search for pollen and love," sings William in “Anaconda” A beautiful summary of this record.
